Turning Technologies off to a flying start

Turning Technologies, the new company created to represent Nakamura-Tome in
the UK, has got off to a flying start, says Managing Director Richard
Turner.
“It’s been tremendous,” says Richard. “We have taken orders for seven
twin-spindle, multi-axis turning centres in our first month of trading. We
have had a fantastic response from both existing and potential Nakamura
customers. The fact that we are totally and exclusively focused on Nakamura
seems to have really struck a chord with the market.”
Since its creation in 1949, Nakamura-Tome has built an enviable reputation
for its high-quality, high-technology turning machines. Its range
encompasses a wide spectrum of machines, from single-spindle, two-axis
lathes up to four-turret, twin-spindle turning centres and systems with
integrated tool-changing capabilities. Of the 1400 Nakamura machines in the
UK around 300 are twin-spindle, twin-turret turning centres.
To support current and future Nakamura customers, Turning Technologies has
created a dedicated team of factory-trained Nakamura experts and set up a
comprehensive stock of spares. So far it has recruited two service
engineers, two applications engineers and a parts co-ordinator. By the end
of the year it expects to have a total of around ten staff.
“With sophisticated, high-technology machine tools such as Nakamura turning
centres, it is generally an engineering solution that you are providing
rather than just a machine, so it is vital to have this level of support
in-house,” says Richard.
“This is a very exciting time for us. We are up and running and waiting for
the call.”
