Confidence leads to orders at Turning Technologies event

Reports showing an increase in manufacturing confidence were confirmed when over 150 current and future customers visited the Turning Technologies UK Open House from 24th to 26th May. Six orders were placed at the event for Nakamura-Tome Super High Precision Turning machines.

Richard Turner, Managing Director of Turning Technologies, the sole UK distributor for Nakamura-Tome’s Super High Precision Turning Centres, said, ”The open house was a great success. Not only did we receive orders for five WT-150 twin spindle, twin turret, multi-axis turning centres and one Super NTJ machine, but we also had a very positive response to our new Nakamura-Tome WT-100 turning centre.”

This new 42mm bar capacity machine follows Nakamura-Tome’s one-hit-machining philosophy and is designed to bridge the gap between the small turned parts traditionally produced on cam autos or sliding head machines, and the 51mm bar capacity WT-150 turning centre.

“Several visitors using sliding head machines described the machining problems they have experienced machining 20mm and 32mm bar sizes in exotic materials. Motor power constraints and light machine designs mean they have to compromise on cutting feeds and speeds. The result is longer cycle times and swarf problems. The new WT100 overcomes these problems as it not only compares very favourably in terms of floor-space with sliding head machines, but also delivers fixed head cutting performance,” said Richard Turner.
