PRODUCTIVE PARTNERS ON SHOW AT EMO

August 2005

The EMO exhibition in Hanover from 14th to 21st September gives visitors the opportunity to see live manufacturing demonstrations from three of The Engineering Technology Group’s international partner companies.

Chiron Werke, putting on a strong show in its home country, is exhibiting no less than thirteen, high-technology, high-productivity machining solutions in Hall 27 on Stand C46. These include not only a full range of single and twin spindle stand-alone vertical machining centres – including five-axis versions – but also integrated and automated manufacturing cells.

The Chiron DZ 12K W Flexcell Duo, for example, integrates two twin-spindle DZ 12K W machining centres into a single cell with a material magazine, robot loading and workpiece changing tables for full six-sided machining two parts at a time in one setup. By combining the world’s fastest toolchangers with twin-spindle, multi-axis machining the aim is to slash cycle times yet still offer flexibility.

The emphasis throughout Chiron’s exhibits, which mirrors The Engineering Technology Group’s own philosophy, is not simply on machines, but on engineered solutions to customers’ needs. The applications on show at EMO cover components as diverse as surgical instruments, aluminium alloy wing sections, cast-iron flywheels and Perspex and steel distributor components.

Nakamura-Tome, for which Engineering Technology Group member Turning Technologies is the sole UK distributor, will be demonstrating eight of its super high-precision turning centres in Hall 17 on Stand 26. The highlight of the Nakamura stand will be the European launch of its new Super NTJX and Super NTY³ machines.

The Super NTJX is a compact tool change machine which features a full B and Y-axis. This is coupled with a unique lower turret which incorporates a Y-axis. This arrangement gives users the ability to produce a range of complex parts in one operation with zero change over time.

The Super NTY³ machine is a twin-spindle, three turret machine, featuring Y-axis on all three turrets. This unique configuration allows complex parts to be produced in one operation with minimum cycle times. Each spindle has a dedicated upper turret with the third, and lower turret, able to service either spindle to reduce any bottlenecks in the process. Both new Nakamura-Tome machines will be available for UK customers in early 2006.

Other machines being shown by Nakamura-Tome include the new WT-100 twin-spindle, twin-turret multi-axis machine that was launched in the UK earlier this year, as well two of the established WT-300 machines; one with a large 100mm bar capacity and one featuring an automated and integrated gantry system. The WT-150, Super NTJ and NTM³ machines will also be on display.

Kupa Prazionsmachinen, represented in the UK by The Engineering Technology Group’s Hyformation division, will show its pallet systems and barfeeders on Stand A 57 in Hall 27.

Kupa’s pallet systems can combine 400mm to 1000mm pallet sizes in the same installation and are completely modular. This means that they can be expanded as required to meet future demand by adding machines, loading stations, pallet storage and software packages. Kupa’s cell controller can interface with all makes of machine control systems and includes software packages for tool life monitoring, pallet schedules, pallet recognition, order driven production tool data, reports and productivity.

As well as its pallet systems, Kupa is also a well-established supplier of bar feeders – it supplies around 400 units a year in Europe alone – and will launch its new Servo Feed 1500 bar feeder at the show.
